Interviewed by Stephen M. Thompson, Ph.D.
Welcome Whitney. Tell us about yourself?
Hello! Thank you so much for reaching out and interviewing me! I was born and raised in West Palm Beach, Florida. I started singing before I could talk and then singing at local churches and in school. I’m silly, outgoing and fun to be around. I’m also a hard worker, dedicated and a kind, sensitive person with a great sense of humor. Family and friends are EVERYTHING to me. They keep me grounded and I enjoy spending time with them. I love to learn, travel and take direction from others.
How and why did you get into music?
My mom is the reason I fell in love and became interested in music. She played it in the car and all the time in the house while cleaning, cooking and hanging out. The way music made me feel and my mom’s reaction to music is why I started taking music seriously and honing in on my craft.
What motivates to write songs?
My life experiences, as well as what others go through in their life, motivate me and inspire me to write music. Nine times out of ten, the stories in my songs have happened to me or someone I know.
Define your music style.
My musical style is a mix of old school and new school R & B.
Talk to us about your future plan?
I’m releasing my first EP titled W very soon. My plans after that are to release more projects and start doing shows. I really just want to inspire people and make them feel good through music.
What are your leisure time activities?
In my spare time I love going out to karaoke with friends and watching (takes deep breath) reality television! I know, I know… But it’s my guilty pleasure! (smiles)
Dogs or cats?
Dogs all the way!
