Interviewed by Stephen M. Thompson, Ph.D.

Welcome to OpenBeast. Tell us about yourself.

I am originally born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. Moved to St. Louis when I was about sixteen. I am a dedicated family man and of course an avid Cardinals fan.

So how did “Glad You Came” happen?

When me and my kids would be driving in the car and the original song would come on the radio I would naturally change the words to the words in my song. My kids thought that it was the most amazing song in the whole world and said that I should record it. Just so happened that a buddy of mine, Mike Dstar from Dstar Studios, was interested in doing the project with me so we teamed up and recorded it.

Talk to us about your music video.

The music video was so much fun. The song is about the spirit of Cardinal Nation, the enthusiasm and passion that we as fans have for our beloved baseball team. It is literally unmatched by any other team in professional baseball. I wanted to celebrate that and let the world know that I am proud to be a Cardinals fan, come sunshine or rain as my song says.

Why do you think your song went viral?

I think that it is such a huge success not only because Cardinals Nation is passionate about all things having to with Cardinals baseball but also and mainly due to the work of my family. They loved the song. I originally just recorded it for my kids, wife and I to get a kick out of but when they got a hold of it they went nuts. They sent it everywhere, to everyone and still continue to.

Describe your passion for singing and song writing?

I have always loved to sing and enjoyed songwriting. Telling a story that hopefully people can relate to, something that invokes emotion. It’s just been one of those things that I have used throughout my life to get me through hard times and to celebrate good times. It’s more therapeutic than anything.

So what’s next?

I am working on a new project that should be done soon. I want it to be a surprise but all I can say is that the music video will be filmed in New Orleans.

What are your leisure time activities?

Not a whole lot of times for leisure activities running a business and now doing music is pretty much taken up the bulk of my time but when I do get time I like to throw the ball with my oldest son, play video games with them or do yard work.

Cats or dogs?

We have three dogs, a cat, a bird and two chickens. I had to cut my wife off from getting animals she has a real problem (smiles).

Thank you.
